ITINERARY FOR RIO IN 4 DAYS
The city of Rio de Janeiro is very complete, offers a lot of nature and beautiful beaches, has a historic center, as well as museums and tourist attractions that are very popular with tourists. If your idea is to take advantage of all of this in your travel plans, here is a guide to help you with that.
We will separate the days according to the attractions that are closest, making it easier to make the most of available points.
1 º DAY: FREE WALKING TOUR + DOWNTOWN
WALKING TOUR DOWNTOWN AND LAPA
Our first tip is, before anything, join our Walking Tour Downtown and Lapa. The purpose of our tour is to give a general idea of the city to you, the visitor. We walk a good part of the historic city center.
Some of the points visited in the center are the beautiful Confeitaria Colombo, the Imperial Palace, the Cinelândia Square and the Selarón Stairs. All of this, in the company of a spirited walker who will explain the curious facts and historical details of these points and also take the opportunity to meet people from other countries and make friends.
Since you are in the city center, take advantage of this opportunity and discover other points in this region. There are some art and cultural spaces in the center of Rio. Some examples are: the National Library, the Municipal Theater, the Real Gabinete Português de Leitura and the Tiradentes Palace.
There are many other museums and cultural centers available for visitation, if you want to get more details see our text about Museums in Rio de Janeiro.
2 º DAY: CHRIST THE REDEEMER + SUGAR LOAF MOUNTAIN + BOTANICAL GARDEN
CHRIST THE REDEEMER + SUGAR LOAF MOUNTAIN
For the second day of your trip, we reserve the most popular attractions for tourists, which is the Christ the Redeemer and the Sugarloaf Mountain. It’s worth remembering that it is important that you seek information about the weather before visiting these attractions because on very cloudy and rainy days it’s practically impossible to see the city from the top of these points.
A good tip before visiting the attractions is to look for points of visibility.
From the neighborhoods of Botafogo, Lagoa, Largo do Machado, Laranjeiras and Downtown it’s possible to see the Corcovado Hill, where is the Christ the Redeemer.
If you are in the neighborhoods of Copacabana, Flamengo, Botafogo, Urca and Downtown it’s possible to see the Sugar Loaf Mountain.
Result: if when viewing these points, you observe many clouds, prefer to visit these attractions at another time. On the same day, the weather improves and you can take the tour. 😊
Another suggestion is to visit the Christ the Redeemer in the morning and the Sugarloaf Mountain at eventing, to enjoy the sunset from the top of the attraction.
Between visits to Christ and Sugar Loaf, you will have some free hours. Our suggestion is to take a walk in the Botanical Garden, which is located very close to the attractions. The Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro is very special and if you like to contact with nature it’s a perfect option.
This is a space with many environments, among lakes, orchid gardens, session of medicinal plants, a walkway of imperial palm trees. Some animals can also be seen as monkeys, turtles and some birds like the toucan.
If you already been to Botanical Garden and want to visit another place, we have the suggestion of Parque Lage!
Parque Lage was built as a gift of love and has a beautiful Roman Palace as its main building. This park is surrounded by nature and has gardens for visitors, including a space reserved for picnics, if it is interest for you.
Do you know the best? The entrance to Parque Lage is free! Inside the park, you can see the Christ the Redeemer statue.
