PEDRA DO TELÉGRAFO – A PLACE WITH A FANTASTIC VIEW AND AMAZING PHOTOS
Do you know that photo where everybody seems to be holding the end of a rock? That place has an amazing view, right? If you want to know more about this place, in this post you’ll discover the most important information from the Pedra do Telégrafo (Telégraph Stone). We’ll tell you where is this place, all the things that can be done there, and information on how to get there.
WHERE IS THIS PLACE?
Pedra do Telégrafo in fact is the popular name for the hilltop of Morro de Guaratiba, which is located in the West area of Rio de Janeiro, at 354 meters. The Pedra Branca Massif is a protected state park since 1974 (we will explain this further throughout the post). Pedra do Telégrafo is located in the wild beach sector in Barra de Guaratiba.
WHY WE CALL IT PEDRA DO TELÉGRAFO?
As we said before, Guaratiba Hill is more known for the name Pedra do Telégrafo. This name came from the fact that the site received an outpost (with radio) for observation of enemy submarines and prevention of attacks on Brazilian vessels. This during the Second World War.
ABOUT THE “PHOTO”
Have you ever realize that in the photos people seem to be holding the rock, as if they were “on the brink of abyss”? Don’t fool yourself, these are all photography tricks! Hahahaha. They are actually cuddled in the anvil stone (shaped like an anvil). This is located a little lower than the true Pedra do Telégrafo.
The coolest thing is that you can use your creativity and take a lot of nice photos in the place. Enjoy it!
In some pictures it’s possible to see some beaches, they are: the wild beaches, restinga da Marambaia (sandbank of Marambaia), Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Barra da Tijuca and even the Pedra da Gávea (read more about Pedra da Gávea in our post about Tijuca Forest).
