HOW TO GO FROM RIO DE JANEIRO TO PARATY

THE CITY OF PARATY
Paraty is a city in the south zone of the state of Rio de Janeiro, in an area called ‘Costa Verde’. It’s located a little bit more them 230 kilometers of the capital of the state. In fact, the city is located between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The city of Paraty is one of the cities most searched for tourists.

Some important events also happens there such as the FLIP (Paraty International Literary Fair) and the BOURBON FESTIVAL (International Jazz Festival).

HOW TO GET TO PARATY?
The way to get to the city will depend on the day and the time. The best option for those leaving Rio de Janeiro is the road BR-101, also called Rio – Santos. The path traveled is all along the sea coast. Which makes the trip even more enjoyable with a wonderful view.
COLLECTIVE TRANSPORT TO PARATY
FROM AIRPORTS WITH BUS
The first option still at the airports both Santos Dumont (SDU) and Galeão (GIG) would be a bus called FRESCÃO, because it has air conditioner.
1 You can take a bus from either airport and it will take you to Novo Rio bus station.
2 At the bus station, you can look for VIAÇÃO COSTA VERDE, which runs the Rio – Paraty section.
STILL IN THE AIRPORT
TRANSFER WITH VANS
Some companies offer transfers from the airport to the city of Paraty in vans. The transports work at different times, it is a good option for those who do not want to travel to the bus station and prefer to go straight.
It is noteworthy that this option is probably not the cheapest and may even be more expensive than taking a Uber to the city.
It is worth doing a search to see if it compensates for this option.
NOVO RIO BUS STATION
This is one of the most economical options to travel to Paraty, it is also the longest. The company responsible for the way between Rio – Paraty is VIAÇÃO COSTA VERDE.
Be aware of the season, there is usually place in the bus to Paraty, but in high season and holidays and festivals, it is worth booking in advance.
Route working hours:from 05am to 9pm. Lasting approximately 04h – 05h of travel. There are 13 daily trips.
The tickets costs around R$ 80,00.
Paraty bus station is very close to the city center and you can easily get there by walking. Remember that cars are not allowed as it is a National Heritage Site? You will have no problem with that.
If you enjoy driving and have availability, renting a car is an option. The way is not difficult. You should be aware that there are many speed cameras and on the length of the road there are spots with asphalt in poor condition.
In total the trip will take about 04h30 and it is about 240 kilometers. You will follow the BR – 101.
Use GPS applications for this route and prefer to do this route during the day.
You can use the app to go to Paraty. In reverse it can be an option too, in Paraty it is also used. The only problem is whether the driver will accept the race in view of the distance.
Ordering the car in the city of Rio de Janeiro, the value of the race will be around R$400,00 depending on the neighborhood where you are.
RIO – ILHA GRANDE – PARATY
If you are a few days in Rio de Janeiro, but would like to meet Paraty and would like to leave your hotel directly, there is a shuttle to it.
This company transfers from Rio to Paraty with vans. In this case you make a reservation and the company picks you up on the specific day, time and place. You don’t have to worry about anything else!

ANGRA DOS REIS – PARATY
Some tourists that want to visit Rio de Janeiro’s Green Coast may choose to take the Angra dos Reis – Paraty route. These two areas are very close, only 100 kilometers, that’s why is easier.
If you like this option see the possibilities:
The city bus that goes from Angra dos Reis to Paraty leaves every 30 minutes. The route has a distance of 95 kilometers and takes around 2 hours. This transport makes some stops along the way.
This bus option makes the route Angra dos Reis – Paraty without stops. This bus only makes 2 trips per day.
There is also the option to travel from Angra dos Reis to Paraty by boat. The route lasts around 01h30. SAFARI TRANSFER is responsible for the route.
Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance.
This is a good option for those who don’t want to waste time in traffic. But remember that of all the routes, Angra dos Reis – Paraty is also the most expensive.
