Why Paraty has to be your next trip? Here we will talk about the sights of the city that make Paraty unique!

Historical Center

The historical center of Paraty has been listed as National Heritage Site by the Brazilian Heritage Agency since 1974. And it is one of the well preserved areas in Rio de Janeiro. We found houses made in the 18th century and beautiful churches.

Check our post Churches of Paraty to know the curiosities about them!

If you want to know all the history and details about this part of the city, be sure to do our Paraty Free Walking Tour. It’s a two-hour tour that tells you the curiosities that make all the difference!

Pontal and Jabaquara Beaches

For those who want a quick walk or lunch with a different view, the tip is Pontal and Jabaquara beach. They are about 10/20 minutes from the historical center in a nice walk.

In the area we have a lot of kiosks on the beach and restaurants. We do not recommend the beach for swimming, because it’s an urban beach, but it’s a good choice to watch the sunset and get some rest.

Here we recommend some restaurants for you! Check our post about the Restaurants of Paraty.

Between the beaches of Pontal and Jabaquara, we have the Forte do Defensor Perpétuo, a cool museum! It’s worth to know a little more about the history of the city and the view is beautiful!

Waterfalls

Anyone who has an extra day can visit them on a Jeep tour that’s offered by travel agencies or you can by youself. Most of the waterfalls are located on the Paraty-Cunha highway. To go there you need to take the bus at the bus station of Paraty.

The most famous of them is the Cachoeira do Tobogã, a mandatory stop on sightseeing tours. But who wants a more intimate tip, we have the Poço da Jamaica, an almost unknown place.

Trindade

It’s a region in the city of Paraty and it’s known for having a charming village and beautiful beaches. I always recommend staying a whole day in Trindade.

There we have a lot of beaches and waterfalls too, my favorite is the Cachadaço Natural Pool but to access this part of Trindade you will have to make two easy trails or rent a boat that costs between R $ 3 to 10 reais, depending on the season.

Boat Tours

One of the main tours in the city is the Boat Tour. Several agencies offer this type of tour, with lunch included or not. The other option is to rent a small boat on the tourist pier that is close to Santa Rita Church.
